Manufacture Resource Planning MRPII

Manufacture Resource Planning is a method of simulating reality as close as possible so that the problems associated with the execution of a future plan can be identified and resolved before the time is reached when the plan must be executed. The method encompasses Material Requirements Planning and determines the capacity requirements of the plan by calculation of the time required in work centres, for machining, finishing, subcontract, inspection labour for each stage of the manufacturing process. Feeding back the problems that would occur if the plan were executed to the planners closes the loop.

MRPII determines the resource required in each work centre or from each machine because, each stage of production for a product has a 'routing' which holds the time taken for set-up, production etc. i.e. sufficient information to calculate how long each stage of production will take and, from the material requirement, when the processing must take place to meet the due date. Items to be processed are moved between machines and work centres and this movement is not instantaneous. Queue and wait times are built into the data held for work centres and machines. Queue and wait times and the number of machines capable of the same process are taken into account in the calculations.

Wells Cathedral has the United Kingdom's oldest working clock with a clock face. We have the time if you have the capacity. Consult WCCL for your MRPII requirements. info@wccl.co.uk

The objective of MRPII is to make the original plan to meet customer demand happen. Where there is insufficient resource all the options must be considered e.g. purchasing, subcontracting, expansion of the capacity or increasing production at an earlier stage to take up slack elsewhere.

MRPII allows you to test the planned production before it actually happens and then to monitor the actual production against the plan. The impact of changes to the plan can be assessed as 'reality' changes.
